A Time-Honored Tradition Among Capitol Hill Staffers
The time-honored tradition of the Capitol Hill Competition began in 2002 as a running competition between House and Senate congressional offices. 

House and Senate congressional offices form teams to compete for the coveted Capitol Hill Cup. The competition is known as “The race within the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run”. The Capitol Hill Competition celebrates its 17th year and has since grown from a handful of congressional teams to well over 60 teams and more than 850 Capitol Hill runners annually.

The world-class run, held in Washington D.C. coincides with the National Cherry Blossom Festival. The event’s long history, high visibility and scenic beauty draws more than 15,000 runners, including hundreds of influential legislators and staffers.  In 2017, nearly 200 Members of Congress supported the race as Honorary Race Chairs.

This popular race sets aside partisanship and encourages participants to run in support of raising funds for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Each year the Capitol Hill Competition and Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run bring together credit unions from across the country with a shared vision of fundraising and helping children. The proceeds from this event support children’s hospitals that belong to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, a non-profit international organization that helps to treat millions of children across the U.S. and Canada.

Congressional Federal Credit Union and U.S. Senate Federal Credit Union continue to sponsor the Capitol Hill Competition with support from NAFCU, CUNA, and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
