Children's National Medical Center Craft Hour and Press Conference
The annual pre-race press conference at Children's National Medical Center sets the stage for the announcement of our fundraising results. This powerful event allows us to meet some of the children we help and share their experiences. Hospital and credit union dignitaries join patients for a festive craft hour prior to the official check presentation. Among the 2010 participants were representatives from the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) and the National Association for Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU).
In 2010 we were honored with a special visit from Caressa Cameron of Virginia, newly crowned Miss America. She delighted the kids by sharing her tiara for photos and joining in the fun as they decorated piggy banks. ABC 7/WJLA-TV co-anchor – and runner – Horace Holmes, interviewed our officials at the press conference and throughout the weekend.
Immediately following the press conference participants gathered in the atrium of the hospital for our first Sponsor Appreciation Luncheon.Dr. Eric Hoffman addressed the impact that exciting new critical molecular genetics research is having on the lives of the children. A view of the Washington, D.C. skyline, fellowship with friends and colleagues, and Credit Unions for Kids dolls in goody bags all around the room made it a perfect day!
