Pearce - Delaware Pearce (Age 11) Brain Tumor

When Pearce of Wilmington, Del., received radiation treatment for a brain tumor she was more concerned about making patients around her smile. Pearce is a special girl with the ability to enjoy life today and to not worry about what tomorrow might bring.

In February 2008, Pearce was diagnosed with a brain tumor the size of a small lemon and immediately underwent surgery. Doctors at The Children’s Hospital Philadelphia were able to remove most of the tumor; Several rounds of chemotherapy and radiation would follow.

Pearce’s parents acknowledge the talented staff at The Children’s Hospital Philadelphia for their daughter’s recovery. “We have been given the diagnoses of NED or ‘no evidence of disease’ since November 2008,” said her dad. “This is a joyful thing to any family of a child with cancer.”

Today, 11-year-old Pearce is a gifted child who sets and achieves high goals. She is an honor roll student and loves to play soccer, roller and ice hockey, track, and most recently volleyball. She loves to read and is a wonderful fiction writer. She wants to continue to help other children with cancer and hopes to set up a foundation in order to make this a reality.
