CONGRATULATIONS‚ SPONSORS‚ ON A SPECTACULAR 9TH YEAR!
Credit unions and business partners can be very proud to have been the title sponsors of the 38th running of the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run® on April 11! Together we raised $923‚000 for Children’s Miracle Network-affiliated children’s hospitals across the country.

PSCU Financial Services’ tremendous support as our lead partner again allows us to cover our title sponsorship expenses‚ enabling every dollar we raise to benefit children’s needs.

Runners and other friends donated over $180‚000 online this year!

HIGHLIGHTS OF A PICTURE-PERFECT WEEKEND … ENJOYED BY ALL

• Miss America‚ Caressa Cameron of Virginia‚ joined us at the Kids’ Craft Hour/Press Conference at Children’s National Medical Center and delighted the kids with her tiara. ABC 7/WJLA-TV co-anchor Horace Holmes joined in the fun and interviewed our officials throughout the weekend.
• Our first Sponsor Appreciation Luncheon at the hospital was a success. Dr. Eric Hoffman spoke about the critical molecular genetics research work being done.
• The Runners’ Expo on Saturday attracted a record crowd of 15‚000 runners. The attendees learned more about credit unions and our commitment to our communities by reading story boards scattered throughout the impressive National Building Museum.
• On a crystal clear race day‚ 7-year-old Champion Amanda Merrill helped kick off the 10-miler and then ran in the Kids 1K Fun Run. She was a terrific ambassador for the hospitals.
• We had live video streaming of the race start and finish line on our website for the first time and 8,000 visitors to the sites.
• DC Mayor Fenty‚ who ran‚ greeted the crowds on April 11 and posed with Chairman Valdov.
• A simultaneous “satellite” race was held for the troops at Camp Eggers in Kabul‚ Afghanistan.
• Of the 15‚000 runners‚ 7‚244 were CU members. CUs entered 34 teams in the CU Cup Challenge.
• Nearly 500 volunteers from 50 CUs and affiliated organizations helped on race weekend.
• Forty Capitol Hill teams and 622 runners competed in the race.
• The race broadcast‚ including ads for CUs‚ was on ABC 7/WJLA-TV and NewsChannel 8 the following weekend.

A FAST YEAR — RECORD-BREAKING RACE COMPETITION RESULTS
Fastest CU Team — NASA FCU in a record team time of 3:02:19.

Fastest CU Female Runner — Mary Beth Chosak from the Federal Reserve Board FCU’s team the “Rate Setters — Cash Us If U Can” finished in a record CU women’s time of 1:04:03‚ breaking her own 2009 record time by 23 seconds.

Fastest CU Male Runner — Alvin Yew from NASA FCU finished in 55:44.

OVER $33,000 RAISED IN SPONSOR CU DONATION CHALLENGES
Credit Union Member Donation Challenge (donations by employees and members)

Constellation FCU raised 33 cents per member with donations from an iPad raffle (beating its own 24 cents per member raised last year).

Credit Union Organizational Donation Challenge (donations by the organization)

Department of Labor FCU raised 73 cents per member through a skip-a-pay program.

THAT’S THE SPIRIT
In a tie‚ Members 1st FCU and Tower FCU won most spirited volunteer team award.

“BILL GOES PINK” UPDATE
Educational Systems FCU raised $2‚465 by having System Administrator Bill Brooks‚ Jr. keep his hair dyed pink from March 1 to April 30. Bill is the son of Credit Union Miracle Day‚ Inc. founder and ex-officio board member‚Bill Brooks.

PSCU FINANCIAL SERVICES & FIRST TECH CU STEP UP TO THE PLATE
PSCU Financial Services generously donated $125,000‚ and First Tech CU in Portland, Oregon, generously donated $100‚000 to Children’s Miracle Network on our behalf. The funds have been earmarked for a new Safety Center at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in the name of the credit union’s CEO‚ Tom Sargent.
