Welcome to the first issue of the 2009 Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run® e-newsletters.
We look forward to an even more exciting year of fundraising for Children’s Miracle Network and getting fit for either the run or walk. This will be our 8th year of title sponsorship of this world-class run. We reached the $1 million fundraising mark in 2008, and we hope to exceed that figure this year!

As you prepare your 2009 calendars, be sure to include these key dates for race weekend:

  • The race is Sunday, April 5 in Washington, D.C. The race course, starting at the foot of the Washington Monument, is the same (although with reversed direction), and all race events will be held downtown!
  • The official race hotel is the Grand Hyatt where the Friday, April 3 Gala Reception will be  held.
  • As always, we plan to have a Kids Craft Hour and race kick-off press conference at the Children’s National Medical Center on Friday morning, April 3.
  • And the Saturday, April 4 Race Expo takes place at the beautiful National Building Museum.
  • This year, the Annual Cherry Blossom Festival Parade falls on Saturday, April 4, the day before the race!

Sponsor Update
Congratulations to our first new sponsor of the year, Diablo Valley FCU, Concord, California. CEO John Pamer is encouraging all credit unions to support the event with runners and donations. “This is a great opportunity to encourage your staff to get in shape while organizing fundraising efforts for Children’s Miracle Network,” he said.

Past sponsors have received their 2009 invoices. Please send your sponsorship funds in as soon as possible. Sponsors will soon receive information about their guaranteed race entries.

Volunteer News
Credit union volunteer team captains are encouraged to contact Michelle Carter to sign up and receive important information about their volunteers’ special race entries. Her e-mail is michelle@cherryblossom.org

Regarding fundraising, we again have an online giving site. Our fundraising cycle is year-round, starting May 1, 2008 and ending April 30, 2009.
