| THE EVENT
The Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run is a major fundraising event for Children’s Miracle Network, collecting much needed donations for the network of 136 children’s hospitals across the U.S. that treat over 17 million children annually. This national credit union effort has an important local impact, since donations from each credit union are given to a Children’s Miracle Network hospital in the credit union’s local community.
In 2010, credit union sponsors raised almost $1 million in donations for Children’s Miracle Network. The funds collected were redistributed, so every dollar generated by credit unions was returned to the Children’s Miracle Network affiliated hospital serving their local community. Because of generous contributions by credit union service organizations and industry providers, a bonus distribution was shared among all affiliated children’s hospitals. Simply stated, each credit union’s local hospital actually received more than the credit union contributed!
This run, held in Washington DC to coincide with the National Cherry Blossom Festival, represents an important opportunity to gain awareness for our industry on Capitol Hill. The event’s 38-year history, high visibility and scenic beauty draws more than 15,000 runners, including hundreds of influential legislators and staffers.
